Candidate Statement:

(In response to the question, "Please explain why you believe you are qualified for the judicial position for which you are seeking election.")

I have dedicated the last sixteen years of my life to public service and the law. I have proven my commitment to using my legal education and experience to fight for positive changes, not only for my clients in the courtroom, but also my constituents in the Statehouse.

In 2006 I joined the Ohio Attorney General's Office where I enjoyed a very robust litigation practice. I represented many Ohio state agencies and universities in civil actions tried in the Ohio Court of Claims, and ultimately appealed to the 10th District Court of Appeals. I have argued numerous cases before the 10th District Court of Appeals.

Throughout my tenure in the Statehouse, I have advanced a legislative agenda focusing on criminal justice and legal reforms. As a legislative appointed member to the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission, I work with lawyers and judges across the state to shape policy on appropriate sentencing measures and judicial matters. While serving as ranking member of Civil Justice Committee, and member of the Judiciary Committee, I advocated for policies that would widen access to justice and ensure that Ohioans across the state were being treated fairly. My work in the legislature has allowed me to develop relationships with prosecutors, defense attorneys, and civil lawyers across the state. I believe my record of being able to thoughtfully consider each of their positions on legislation, sometimes negotiating compromises, and making informed decisions will be a great strength as a judge.
