Candidate Statement:

(In response to the question, "Please explain why you believe you are qualified for the judicial position for which you are seeking election.")

I have worked in the legal field since soon after graduating from high school. I worked and paid my way through college and law school. I have practiced law in Franklin County since May 1986. My legal experience is diverse and encompasses jury and court trials in many counties throughout the state. Since 1994, I have practiced in Domestic Relations and Juvenile Courts where I have appeared with clients almost daily and where I presided as a Magistrate. I have represented and worked with people of all backgrounds and with a wide range of legal issues. I have been appointed as guardian ad litem for many children in abuse neglect cases and in custody cases and understand best interest standard. I have represented juveniles with delinquency charges including bind overs to adult court. I have experience in every aspect of the court for which I am seeking election.

My extensive court room experience has made me very aware of the strain court cases put on families' lives and I will make sure that cases are completed timely and fairly and that the parties' concerns are heard and addressed. I will be accessible to attorneys to assist in getting cases completed. I will also strive to have all cases assigned to me heard and decided expeditiously by having regular communication with the Magistrates and court personnel in the Domestic and Juvenile Divisions of the Court.

As a Magistrate, I demonstrated my ability to set and hear cases timely and I have a reputation as a fair and hardworking Magistrate. If elected, I will work hard, follow the law, have an open door policy for communication regarding cases, and I will schedule the docket so that it runs smoothly and efficiently for counsel and parties.

My extensive trial experience and representation of clients in domestic, juvenile and criminal cases, has resulted in me being knowledgeable in all laws involved in the cases filed and heard in the domestic and juvenile division of the court. My experience as a parent of three children has given me insight into the issues facing children and families. I am patient and will listen to parties and counsel in all cases. I am compassionate and truly care about families and children and will work hard with all communities to insure that all cases are decided efficiently and fairly.
